Steps that now lead to nowhere.Celia de Villiers
“For the past three years I have uneasily witnessed the synchronic relationship between corrosion, temporality and space at this derelict hotel. In 2000, a new, faster route bypassed our village, leading to its gradual abandonment.”
“In architecture, steps and passages enable the body’s forward mobility and contain the expectation of rhythmic ascension. Conversely, the successive regression of this space by vandalism, forest fires and floods has left a legacy of marks and scars on the stairs, which now lead to nowhere.”
