Struggle in Peace

Product development with the ‘Struggle in Peace’ embroidery group in Nieuw Bethesda — hand-stitched felt pieces based on the sculptures of the Owl House.

Celia de Villiers worked with the ‘Struggle in Peace’ embroidery group in Nieuw Bethesda — the Karoo village of Helen Martins’ Owl House — on product development, translating the forms of the Owl House sculptures into hand-stitched, felted fish, owls and figures.

It belongs to her wider community and craft-development practice, alongside collaborations such as the Intuthuko collective near Johannesburg.
