Conservationists fixate on South Africa’s endangered ‘Big Five’ while we forget the defenceless women and girls who are hunted, raped and murdered — becoming statistics, trophies scored in the name of an insecure and power-hungry masculinity.
Five embossed-leather figures, lined with layered collaged textiles, heat-screened newspaper reports (in three of South Africa’s eleven official languages) and machine embroidery, suspended from butcher’s hooks. It took six months to gather enough clippings to line the five life-size figures.
